João Pedro de Magalhães, PhD, is Professor of Molecular Biogerontology at the University of Birmingham, where he leads the Genomics of Ageing and Rejuvenation Lab. His research combines experimental and computational approaches to understand the genetic, cellular, and molecular mechanisms of ageing, with the long-term goal of alleviating age-related diseases and extending healthy lifespan.
He has sequenced and studied long-lived species, such as bowhead whales and naked mole rats, developed widely used resources like GenAge and DrugAge, and authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications. João Pedro has given over a hundred invited talks worldwide, from scientific conferences to TEDx, and his work has been featured in outlets such as the BBC, The Guardian, and Scientific American. Beyond the lab, he consults for biotech ventures and foundations focused on longevity and future medicine.
